Trump's Gaza Takeover Plan Faces Global Rejection

(MENAFN- Khaama Press) On Tuesday, February 4, 2025, U.S. President Donald trump announced that the United States intends to take control of the Gaza Strip. He described Gaza as a“demolition site” and suggested that its Palestinian residents should be relocated to other regions. This statement was made during a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House.

President Trump emphasized that U.S. control over Gaza would be a long-term commitment aimed at stabilizing the region. He proposed relocating Palestinians to a“nice, beautiful, new piece of land” and envisioned transforming Gaza into a prosperous area, potentially resembling the“Riviera of the Middle East.”

Prime Minister Netanyahu supported the idea, stating that it represents a novel approach that could change history. He expressed optimism about the potential benefits of U.S. involvement in Gaza's redevelopment.

The proposal has elicited widespread international criticism. Riyad Mansour, the Palestinian ambassador to the United Nations, countered by suggesting that Palestinians should be allowed to return to their original homes within Israel. He emphasized that Gaza is the homeland of its residents, who are committed to rebuilding and living there.

The Saudi Arabian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state. Despite recent overtures from Israel to normalize relations, Saudi Arabia maintained that any such normalization is contingent upon the creation of a Palestinian state. The ministry declared that relocating Palestinians and seizing control of Gaza are non-negotiable issues, asserting that lasting peace is achievable only if Palestinians attain their legitimate right to statehood.

Sami Abu Zuhri, a senior spokesperson for Hamas, condemned the U.S. plan, labeling it a blueprint for chaos and tension in the region. He insisted that the people of Gaza will resist any attempts to implement such proposals and called for an end to occupation and aggression against Palestinians, rather than their displacement.

Iranian media outlets have described President Trump's statements as alarming and audacious, noting that Arab leaders are reacting with astonishment, concern, and skepticism. The proposal has intensified debates about the future of Gaza and the broader Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The international community has expressed deep concern over the potential humanitarian implications of the proposed U.S. takeover of Gaza. Human rights organizations warn that forcibly relocating Gaza's approximately 2 million residents could lead to significant human suffering and violate international laws against forced displacement. The already dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, characterized by high unemployment, limited access to essential services, and ongoing conflict, could be exacerbated by such actions.

Analysts also caution that the U.S. proposal may further isolate Palestinians and undermine efforts toward a two-state solution. By unilaterally determining the future of Gaza without Palestinian input, the plan risks entrenching divisions and fueling further unrest in the Middle East. The international community continues to advocate for solutions that respect the rights and aspirations of the Palestinian people while promoting lasting peace and stability in the region.
