Rajasthan Election 2023: Political Drama In Danta Ramgarh, Wife Gives Way For Husband's Candidacy

(MENAFN- AsiaNet News) In the run-up to the Rajasthan Assembly elections on November 25, the Danta Ramgarh constituency in the state presents an intriguing political scenario. The Haryana-based Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) has announced Rita Chaudhary as its candidate, while the Congress is expected to renominate her husband, the incumbent MLA Virendra Singh, in this electoral battle.

Meanwhile, in Alwar's Ramgarh constituency, the ruling Congress has nominated Zubair Khan, a former legislator, as its candidate, replacing sitting MLA Shafia Zubair, who is also Zubair Khan's wife. The election results for Rajasthan will be declared on December 3.

Virendra Singh, son of the former PCC chief and seven-time MLA Narayan Singh, hails from a family with a long-standing association with the Congress. However, Rita Chaudhary joined the JJP in August, becoming the state president of the party's women's wing.

In 2018, Chaudhary had sought a Congress ticket to contest the Danta Ramgarh constituency but her husband was chosen by the party instead. Since then, she has made considerable efforts to strengthen her political base in the constituency and took many by surprise when she switched to the JJP. The party recently released a list of six candidates, with Chaudhary's name included.

Chaudhary expressed confidence in her prospects, stating, "People want to see changes, and the party has selected me as the candidate from the Danta Ramgarh seat. I am confident of my victory." She intends to focus her campaign on issues like development, water problems, and unemployment, aiming to address the unmet needs of the constituency.

When asked about the potential electoral contest with her husband, Virendra Singh, she emphasized that her party was still awaiting the Congress's candidate announcement. However, she maintained that her campaign would emphasize the need for change in the constituency.

Virendra Singh believes the election will be a "direct fight" between him and his wife, given their respective candidacies. He noted his achievements, such as establishing community health centers and schools in the constituency, and intends to run on a platform of continued development.

The Danta Ramgarh constituency, located in the Shekhawati region, is dominated by Jat voters and forms part of the farmers' belt. In the past, prominent leaders like former vice president Bhairon Singh Shekhawat have been elected from this constituency.
