Poland assigns fresh ambassador to Ukraine

(MENAFN) Poland's latest Ambassador to Ukraine is set to be Jarosław Guzy, a 68-year-old historian and journalist. The appointment was officially conveyed to Jarosław Guzy by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Zbigniew Rau, according to a report from a Ukrainian news agency, citing information from the Polish Foreign Ministry.

"The Polish Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau presented orders for appointment to the ambassadors: Jarosław Guzy will become Poland’s Ambassador to Ukraine," the report mentions.

Furthermore, Minister Zbigniew Rau presented official orders for the appointment of ambassadors to Vietnam, Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as Angola.

Jarosław Guzy, whose background is in sociology, was actively involved in opposition activities during the communist era and was subjected to internment as a result. In the early 1990s, he served as an advisor to the Minister of Defense before transitioning to entrepreneurship. His spouse, Agnieszka Romaszewska-Gusy, is a prominent journalist and the CEO of a Polish TV channel.

Reports of Guzy's assignment to Ukraine were initially mentioned by a Polish portal in March. When asked by a Ukrainian news agency, Guzy did not confirm or deny the reports.

Jarosław Guzy is slated to succeed Bartosz Cichocki, who assumed the role in February 2019. Notably, Cichocki has been the sole ambassador from an EU member state to remain in the host country since February 24, 2022, when Russia initiated a full-scale invasion.
