(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) ASTANA, Kazakhstan, October 24. The development
of the Trans-Caspian International transport Route (TITR, or Middle
Corridor) is of great importance for Kazakhstan, said the Minister
of Trade and Integration of the Republic of Kazakhstan Arman
Shakkaliyev at the C5+1 Ministerial conference in Samarkand
(Uzbekistan), Trend reports.
Shakkaliyev noted that Kazakhstan is a reliable supplier of
energy resources and strategic goods to Europe and global markets,
including the US, and the Middle Corridor facilitates this
activity.
According to him, the Central Asian region is becoming a key
link in global transport carriage and plays an important role as a
continental bridge in the North-South and East-West directions.
The minister noted that Kazakhstan has become the most important
transport and logistics center in Eurasia, offering 11
international transit routes - 5 railways and 6 highways.
"We are also committed to doing our part to protect global
supply chain networks. The Central Trans-Caspian Network has been
identified as the most sustainable transport network connecting
Central Asia with the Trans-European Transport Network. Over the
past three years, container traffic on this route has increased
more than 13 times," the minister said.
As part of the C5+1 Ministerial Conference, Arman Shakkaliyev
also met with USAID Administrator Samantha Power. During the
meeting, issues of bilateral and regional cooperation were
discussed, including issues of digitalization, ecology, renewable
energy and prospects for the Middle Corridor.
The Middle Corridor is a transportation and trade route that
connects Asia and Europe, passing through several countries in the
region. It is an alternative route to the traditional Northern
Corridor and Southern Corridor.
The route starts in China and crosses Central Asian countries
such as Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan. It then passes
through the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Türkiye before
reaching Europe.
The Middle Corridor offers a land route that connects the
eastern parts of Asia, including China, with Europe, bypassing the
longer maritime routes.
