Street Value Of Heroin On Fishing Trawler Estimated At Rs. 4500 Million

The street value of heroin found on a fishing trawler escorted to Colombo today has been estimated to be Rs. 4500 million.

Based on intelligence information received from the State Intelligence Service, the Sri Lanka Navy mounted a special operation and intercepted the local multiday fishing trawler about 292 nautical miles (about 540 km) south of Dondra.

Over 219 kg (including packages) of heroin were found on the boat and 05 suspects who were on the trawler were arrested.

The Senior Adviser to the President on National Security and Chief of the Presidential Staff, Sagala Ratnayaka and the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera, arrived at the port of Colombo this morning to personally inspect the seized consignment.

The suspects were identified as residents of Kudawella, Tissamaharama, Koottagoda and Mamadala. (Colombo Gazette)
