Incidents Of Violence Kill A Policeman, 4 Militants In Sw Pakistan


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ISLAMABAD, Aug 30 (KUNA) -- A policeman was killed in an attack by militants while separately four most wanted "terrorists" were killed in an exchange of fire with security forces in Pakistanآ's southwestern Balochistan province, said officials on Wednesday.
A senior Police official, SP Zia Mandokheil told media that unidentified assailants opened fire at a policeman while he was heading home after completing his night duty at the entrance of the Special Branch office in Sariab Mills Colony of Quetta city, the provincial capital.
He confirmed that the policeman was killed on the spot and his body was moved to the nearest government run medical facility. The security forces cordoned off the area and an investigation into the incident went underway.
Separately, at least four militants belonging to the banned outfit Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) were killed in an exchange of fire during an operation conducted by the Quetta Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) in Balochistanآ's Pishin district.
A statement issued by the Balochistan CTD on Wednesday said that the killed militants were involved in variterrorist activities.
After receiving information about their hideout, the Quetta CTD deputed a specialized combat team that cordoned off the area where the hideout was located and asked the terrorists to surrender, the statement read. It added that the terrorists opened indiscriminate fire on the CTD team, following which a shootout ensued.
"The CTD team took precautions and returned fire. When the firing stopped, four terrorists were found dead," it confirmed. Security forces have seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition from the terrorists. (end)
