Lebanon Detains 2 Persons On Charges Of Collaborating With Israel


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BEIRUT, Aug 25 (KUNA) -- The acting director general of the General Security Directorate, General Elias Baisary, declared on Friday that two persons had been arrested at the Beirut airport on charges of having affiliations with Israel.
The pair had been assigned to carry out operations in Lebanon, said Gen. Baisary in a statement during a celebration held by the directorate, marking the 78th anniversary of the force.
The two detainees have been referred to the military justice, he added, indicating that they were part of a clandestine network serving Israel.
Touching on another case, he said that the Lebanese authorities had also nabbed one of the most notorichiefs of the Italian mafia and handed him to the authorities in Rome. (end)
