Indian premier: India to be world's economic engine in upcoming years

(MENAFN) The world's economic engine in the upcoming years will be India, according to premier's comments on Tuesday.

At the BRICS Business Forum Leaders' Dialogue in Johannesburg, South Africa, Modi asserted that despite the instability in the global economy, "India is currently the fastest-growing major economy in the world" and "soon, India will become a USD5 trillion economy."

"This is because India has transformed times of adversity and challenges into an opportunity for economic reforms," he stated. "In the past few years, the reforms we have undertaken in mission mode have led to consistent improvement in the ease of doing business in India."

The COVID-19 epidemic has "taught us the importance of resilient and inclusive supply chains," Modi added, calling everyone in the meeting to "be a part of India's journey of development."

"By combining each other's strengths, we can contribute significantly to the well-being of the entire world, especially the Global South," he claimed.
