Australia denounces offensive act on Quran

(MENAFN) Australia denounced the offensive action of burning one copy of the Muslim's Quran, on Wednesday.

"Australia condemns the burning of the Qur'an in Denmark and Sweden. We stand against prejudice and hatred," Foreign Minister Senator Penny Wong posted on twitter.

She went on to say that religious freedom is a vital human right, and that Australia is equally worried about the violent protests in Iraq.

"We must all stand together to prevent violence and division," she claimed.

Members of the Islamophobic and far-right nationalist organization "Danske Patrioter (Danish Patriots)" burnt a copy of the Holy book in front of Iraq's embassy in Copenhagen, Denmark, on Friday.

Salwan Momika, a 37-year-old Iraqi immigrant residing in Sweden, stomped the holy Quran early this week, only weeks following setting fire to parts of the Quran outside a Stockholm mosque.

Rasmus Paludan, a far-right Danish politician, burnt a copy of the holy book in front of the Turkish Embassy in Stockholm in January of the current year. Across the Islamic world, the act aroused outrage and condemnation.
