Greta Thunberg goes on trial charged with disobeying police


(MENAFN) Swedish weather campaigner Greta Thunberg is will go on trial accused with defying law enforcement at a rally un June after activists obstructed the harbor in the town of Malmo.

She has to make an appearance in the court of law on Monday in the southern Swedish town at 9.30AM GMT.

The 20-year-old activist “took part in a demonstration that disrupted traffic” also “refused to obey police orders to leave the site”, based on the charge sheet viewed by AFP.

She is encountering a maximum ruling of half a year in jail, however, prosecutor Charlotte Ottosen informed AFP that normally, such accusations outcome in penalties.

The rally, prearranged by the environmental activist assembly “Ta tillbaka framtiden” (Reclaim the Future), attempted to obstruct the entering and exit gate to the Malmo harbor to demonstrate against the usage of fossil oil.
