Doha, Qatar: Doha Film Institute's online Screenwriting for Beginners Lab 2023 - English will take place from August 10 to 14.
Aspiring screenwriters can submit their applications until July 30 for a chance to participate in this enriching programme.
Running from 5pm to 7pm each day, the lab offers a comprehensive programme that covers various aspects of screenwriting. The fee for the lab is QR300, and Qatar Museums Culture Pass members will enjoy a 10% discount on the enrollment fee.
DFI said each lab will accommodate a select group of eight to ten participants.
Over the course of five days, the lab will delve into different topics. Day 1 will focus on introducing participants to the art of storytelling, followed by Day 2, which will explore the intricacies of building compelling characters. Day 3 will tackle the crucial aspect of story architecture, while Day 4 will delve into the realm of visual storytelling. Finally, Day 5 will be dedicated to the craft of writing for the screen.“This fascinating lab will include the foundations of screenwriting, with mentors covering the 'architecture' of screenplays (storytelling, screenplay guidelines, non-verbal storytelling, and characterisation) and the 'formatting' of a screenplay (visual grammar and Celtx/Final Draft),” explained DFI.
The lab will be held remotely and conducted in English. It will employ a blended learning approach, combining online lectures, assignments, and group discussions to provide participants with a well-rounded understanding of the art and craft of screenwriting.
The lab will be led by two accomplished mentors, Anthea Devotta and Amna Al Binali.
