one of the most notable historical and archaeological structures is al-suleiman palace, a historic landmark of makkah. it has been standing for 86 years and is magnificent with its wonderful patterns and traditional islamic architecture.
the 1,400 square meter palace is primarily constructed using rawashin (protruding latticed windows) and arches, two features of makkah's historic architecture.
the late king abdulaziz bin abdulrahman, who founded the kingdom, visited the palace, which belongs to abdullah al-suleiman, the first minister of finance of the kingdom of saudi arabia; it was the location of meetings and the making of decisions, and it later started serving as the library of the grand holy mosque in makkah. it later doubled as a school's administrative centre and, most recently, as the makkah location of the supreme sharia court.
