US secretary urges for actions to stop Daesh/ISIS resurgence

(MENAFN) United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Thursday urged for the safe return of Daesh/ISIS’s foreign troops stuck in Iraq and Syria to their nations to stop the terrorist group’s renaissance.

“The United States and the 86 members of the Global Coalition to Defeat Daesh/ISIS will continue to counter violent extremists and the scourge of terrorism,” Blinken stated throughout a conference of the Global Coalition to Defeat Daesh/ISIS, hosted in the Saudi capital Riyadh.

“While we have defeated Daesh/ISIS on the battlefield in Syria and Iraq, we must stay focused to prevent a resurgence,” he also mentioned.

The head diplomat cautioned that if Daesh/ISIS troops as well as their families remain in refugee camps all over the area, it might cause the group's renaissance.

“This is a priority to reduce numbers in displacement camps across the region,” Antony Blinken also stated.
