Hour al-Azim wetland hosts exotic creatures
(MENAFN) The initial flamingo breeding colony has been discovered at Hour al-Azim wetland, the southwestern district of Khuzestan.
A news agency reported that an official study displayed 367 flamingos were nesting, laying eggs, and also raising chicks in five colonies.
Hour al-Azim wetland is a significant wetland on the border of Iran and Iraq. exotic species like cormorants, margerdans, giant herons, African egrets, marble ducks, white-headed ducks, long-tailed ducks, as well as several additional species of water and waterside birds inhabited the place .
In Iran, 141 wetlands with ecological worth with a region of more than 3 million hectares have been recognized, of which 25 wetlands are designated as wetlands of global value (listed in the Ramsar Convention) covering over 1.4 million hectares and four locations are biosphere reserves.
The Department of Environment decided water rights for 11 wetlands out of 25 wetlands that are listed in the Ramsar Convention, however, the situations of the wetlands implies that the water rights have not been entirely achieved.
