Iran Announces Volleyball Squad for 2023 Volleyball Nations League


(MENAFN) On Wednesday, the Iran Volleyball Federation revealed the list of 14 players selected to represent the country in the highly anticipated 2023 Volleyball Nations League (VNL) Week 1. With preparations in full swing, the Iranian team will embark on their journey to Nagoya, Japan on Thursday, eagerly anticipating their participation in this prestigious international event.

Currently ranked 10th in the FIVB Men's Volleyball World Ranking, Iran aims to build upon their impressive seventh-place finish in the previous edition of the VNL. Set to take place in June and July, the 2023 VNL offers Iran an opportunity to further improve their standing in the world of volleyball. Their Preliminary Phase campaign kicks off on June 6, featuring matches in Nagoya (Japan), Rotterdam (the Netherlands), and Anaheim (USA). If they successfully advance to the VNL Finals, Iran will travel to Gdansk, Poland, to compete in the event scheduled from July 19 to 23.

Looking ahead, Iran has an array of crucial competitions on their agenda. From August 19 to 26, they will have the honor of hosting the 2023 Asian Championship in Tehran, where they will endeavor to defend their continental title. In the initial stage of the tournament, Iran will compete in a pool alongside Hong Kong and Iraq, showcasing their determination to reign supreme in their home country.

The pursuit of glory continues for the Iranian team as they set their sights on the Asian Games, scheduled to take place in Hangzhou, China, from September 19 to 26. With the goal of securing their third consecutive Asian Games crown, Iran will face fierce competition from other talented teams in the region.

Furthermore, coach Behrouz Ataei's squad will engage in qualifying battles in their quest for a coveted spot at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. From September 30 to October 8, Iran will embark on a journey to South America, where they will confront formidable opponents including Cuba, Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Qatar, Ukraine, and the host nation Brazil. The ultimate prize at stake is securing two qualifying spots for the Olympic Games next year.
