(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ISLAMABAD, May 28 (KUNA) -- At least three children were injured after two earthquakes of magnitude 6 and 4.7 jolted several parts of Pakistan on Sunday, said officials.
According to Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the first earthquake of magnitude 6 struck Pakistan with its epicenter in the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border region at a depth of 223 kilometers. The second earthquake of magnitude 4.7 was reported with its epicenter near Jalalabad in Afghanistan and struck at a depth of 15 kilometers. The tremors were felt in federal capital Islamabad, Rawalpindi city, Murree, Sharda, Keil, Upper Neelum Valley Peshawar and many other cities of northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) province bordering Afghanistan. No loss of life was reported in the country but three children were injured in the Hado area of Batkol in Battagram district of KPK.
People thronged out of their houses praying for safety due to strong tremors.
Earlier this year, an earthquake of 6.8 magnitude on the Richter scale jolted parts of Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, claiming the lives of at least two people and injuring 180 others. (end) sbk.ibi
