(MENAFN) The National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) has launched vast exploration operations covering an area of 140,000 square kilometers, both offshore and onshore, to discover new hydrocarbon reserves in Iran. The exploration efforts aim to identify untapped deposits and expand the country's oil and gas resources. Mohsen Khojasteh-Mehr, the managing director of NIOC, highlighted the collaborative efforts of domestic entities such as the National Iranian South Oil Company (NISOC), NIOC's Exploration Department, and the Oil Industry Research Institute of Iran in this endeavor.
During a ceremony commemorating the 115th anniversary of Iran's first oil exploration in Masjed Soleyman, located in the southwestern province of Khuzestan, Khojasteh-Mehr spoke about NIOC's long-term vision for exploration. He emphasized their determination to conduct extensive exploration operations and secure the country's reserves. According to early studies, promising indications suggest the existence of significant untapped resources in Iran, particularly in the oil-rich Khuzestan Province.
