Arab Summit Helped Bring More Regional Unity - Lebanese PM

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BEIRUT, May 20 (KUNA) -- Lebanon's caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati hailed on Saturday a pan-Arab summit held a day earlier in Saudi Arabia's Red Sea city of Jeddah, saying the talks highlighted the joint interests of Arab countries.
Expressing his "confidence" in Saudi Arabia's "approach," he commended the efforts of the Gulf Arab kingdom towards ironing out the differences of Arab countries, the Lebanese caretaker premier told regional television station "Al-Hadath," as cited in a statement by his office.
"I call on the Arab brothers to help Lebanon establish domestic dialogue," the statement said, while Beirut's failure to elect a president has exacerbated the status quo, it added.
Arab leaders gathered in Jeddah on Friday underlined their solidarity with Lebanon, calling on political parties there to "engage in dialogue and elect a president who satisfies people's aspirations to restore regular work of constitutional institutions and conduct required reforms," according to the summit's final communique.
