Mumbai, May 18 (KNN) India has the potential to create 3.5 crore green jobs by the year 2047 in renewable energy, waste management, electric vehicles, green construction, and sustainable textiles, as per a latest study by JP Morgan.

Undertaken by the Skills Council for Green Jobs and Sattva Consulting, with support from J.P. Morgan, the study is titled“Gearing Up the Workforce for a Green Economy”, reported TOI.



The report emphasizes philanthropy's crucial role in addressing skills requirements and ensuring equal access to green jobs.

It estimates that the 3.5 crore green jobs will be in urban and peri-urban areas.

“Key sectors such as renewable energy, green hydrogen, waste management, electric vehicles, sustainable textiles, and green construction are expected to drive India's green growth and host a significant number of green jobs,” the report said.

During the report's launch, A. K. Tiwari, Secretary of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), expressed the government's commitment to prioritizing green growth and green jobs.

“We are fully committed and continuously engaging with industry and other stakeholders to ensure that youth are suitably skilled, certified, and fully prepared to meet the industry's evolving requirements,” he said.

The study also outlines five significant initiatives, termed“Big Bets,” that have the potential to generate jobs at scale for individuals from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds.
