Hafiz Zia Ahmad, deputy representative of the interim Foreign Ministry, stated that the verdict to participate the mega infrastructure venture is part of the Taliban administration's pledge to bring foreign funding to the conflict-torn nation.

"CPEC will help us to become part of Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and bring different projects in energy, railway and other sectors to Afghanistan," Ahmad stated in a video announcement shared by Ariana News, a local television channel.

Last week, Afghanistan’s acting foreign and commerce ministers payed a visit to Islamabad to join the 5th China-Afghanistan-Pakistan Foreign Ministers' Dialogue.

As mentioned by a statement released following the gathering, the "three sides reaffirmed their resolve to fully harness Afghanistan’s potential as a hub for regional connectivity."
