The Interactive Woven Design Project To Put Focus On Saudi Arabia During The London Design Biennale

(MENAFN- Asdaf News) Saudi Arabia will take part in the fourth London Design Biennale hosted at London's Somerset House between June 1 and 25, 2023, according to a statement from the Architecture and Design Commission.

The Saudi pavilion will include an interactive artwork titled“Woven,” created and curated by Ruba Alkhaldi and Lojain Rafaa to symbolise the country's welcoming spirit, inspired by the 2023 London Design Biennale topic of“Remapping Collaborations.”

“Woven” imitates the traditional craft of“Sadu,” which involves weaving using a straightforward, portable loom. It is regarded as a tremendously influential design trend that has influenced local culture greatly.

Visitors will be urged to work together and co-create the design installation in order to experience the Kingdom's inclusive culture. A multi-touch interactive interface will be available for visitors to select different yarns and apply them to the tapestry. Each of these strands stands for a distinct societal tenet, including manufacturing, technology, health, and education.

A 50-meter-long tapestry will have been woven by the time the pattern London Biennale show closes on June 25, 2023, with the positioning of each thread being impacted by the visitors' perceptions and beliefs that interlace in perfect harmony to create the pattern. This tapestry will act as a data map, and the artwork will return to Saudi Arabia and go on a worldwide and local tour to uplift people and spread the message of prosperity, connection, and harmony.

Saudi Arabia will take part in the London Design Biennale for the third time, after its participation in 2016 and 2018. The London Design Biennale envisions social and ecological development via designs that draw on networks of interchange and movement, and the Architecture and Design Commission, which has funded this participation, shares this vision.
