São Paulo – The Brazil-Bahrain Parliamentary Group, created last year, had its installation and first meeting this Wednesday (10), at the Brazilian federal Senate, in Brasília, with the presence of the ambassador of Bahrain to Brazil, Bader Abbas Alhelaibi.
At the event, Senator Nelsinho Trad (PSD, Mato Grosso do Sul) was elected president of the group. Trad told the senators about his visit to Bahrain in March this year, representing the Amazonian Parliament at an assembly of the Interparliamentary Union, which took place in the Arab country. The senator said since Alhelaibi became Bahrain's ambassador to Brazil, several initiatives have been devised to strengthen the bilateral relationship between the countries, a movement that has relied on the close collaboration with the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC).
He said the rapprochement brings growth and investment potential to Brazil. Trad gave an overview of Bahrain, talking about promoting IT businesses and its prominence in supporting initiatives for peace and security in the Middle East.
Alhelaibi said relations between the two countries are marked by diversity at various levels and highlighted the growth in Brazil-Bahrain trade flow to over USD 2 billion in 2022 and the greater cooperation and coordination at the political level. The embassy adviser, Fahad Mohamed Alfaihani, also participated in the meeting.
