The 23rd International Festival of African Cinema kicked off in Khouribga in Morocco, with the participation of 27 films from 15 countries. The event runs through May 13.
Twelve films from ten African countries, including Morocco, Cameron, Congo, Tunisia, Burkina Faso, Rwanda, Egypt, Kenya, Mozambique and Guinea will compete in the festival's official long film category.
15 short films from 13 nations, including Egypt, Kenya, Senegal, Benin, Cote d'Ivoire, Egypt, Rwanda, Nigeria, Uganda, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Tunisia, Ghana, and Burkina Faso.
For feature films, Morocco and Cameroon, which is the guest of this 23rd edition will be represented by two films each. These are respectively“Jalaldin” by Hassan Benjelloun and“The Oasis of Frozen Waters” by Raouf Sebbahi, and“Shadrack” by Narcisse Wandji and“The Plantation of Planters” by Dingha Yellow Eystein.
The other films in official competition are:
“I am chance” by Marc-Henri Wajnberg (Congo), “Streams” by Mehdi Hmili (Tunisia), “Epines du Sahel” by Boubakar Diallo (Burkina-Faso), “Citizen kwamen” by Yuhi Amuli (Rwanda), “B19” by Ahmed Abdalla (Egypt), “Shimoni” by Angela Wanjikuwamai (Kenya), “Le courage en plus” by Billy Touré & Laurent Chevallier (Guinea) “Maputo Nakuzandza” by Ariadine Leitão Zampaulo (Mozambique).
The 23rd International Festival of African Cinema, in which Cameroon is a guest of honour, is marked by the organization of the official competition for the short film for the first time in its history.
Since 1977, The Festiva lhas been held in Khouribga and is one of the oldest film festivals in Morocco, and the third continental behind Fespaco and Carthage festivals.
