2 Evacuation Flights From Sudan Carrying 81 People Arrive In Amman

(MENAFN- Jordan Times) AMMAN - Two evacuation flights from Sudan, carrying 81 people, including Jordanians, foreign nationals and
34 staff members of UN organisations operating in Sudan, arrived in the Kingdom at dawn on Thursday.

The new arrivals were received by the Director of Air Operations of the Royal Jordanian Air Force (RJAF), Director of UNICEF and the Chief Security Adviser, Director of the UN Department for Safety and Security in the Kingdom, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The evacuees expressed their gratitude and appreciation to his majesty King Abdullah and the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF) for monitoring the situation of the Jordanian community in Sudan.

They also praised the authorities involved in the evacuation process for their promptness in following the necessary procedures to ensure a safe return to the Kingdom.

The General Command of the JAF has prepared an evacuation plan in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs, implemented through the joint crisis cell that was formed after the onset of the crisis.

Also on Thursday, the seventh RJAF evacuation airplane arrived at the Marka Military Airport, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs announced.

The plane was dispatched to the Port Sudan International Airport following the Royal directive to evacuate non-Jordanian nationals from Sudan after the vast majority of Jordanians in Sudan were transferred back home, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.

The airplane carried 10 Jordanian nationals and 57 other individuals from Syria, Tunisia, US, Germany, Italy, UK, Portugal, Canada, Ireland, Mexico, Sweden, Norway, Japan, Switzerland, Finland, the Netherlands, Russia, Kazakhstan and Pakistan, along with staff of international organisations.

Later on Wednesday, 17 Jordanians arrived in the Kingdom on a German evacuation plane that had taken off from the Kingdom to evacuate German citizens from Sudan. The flight was part of several countries' evacuation campaigns that used Jordan as their base of operations.

The Kingdom provided all necessary facilities for implementing these campaigns.
