Qatar Receives 'Date Palm' File Accession Certificate From Unesco

Paris: The Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco) H E Dr. Nasser bin Hamad Al Hanzab received at Unesco headquarters in Paris recently the certificate of the State of Qatar's accession to“The Palm, Knowledge, Skills, Traditions and Practices” as an intangible cultural element on the List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
The State of Qatar joined, on December 1, the 'Date Palm' file during the 17th session of the Intergovernmental Unesco's Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in Rabat.
The move reflects the State of Qatar's keenness to preserve the tangible and intangible cultural heritage, as part of the cultural formation of the common Qatari and Arab identity.
With the State of Qatar joining the Date Palm file, the number of Arab countries registered in the file has become 13. It also includes Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt, Palestine, Oman and Yemen.
