Qatar Calendar House Announces Start of Month of Shawwal, Eid Al-Fitr

(MENAFN) The Qatar Calendar House has announced that Friday, April 21, 2023, is the beginning of the month of Shawwal and the first day of the blessed Eid Al-Fitr. According to astronomical calculations conducted by experts, this date was determined based on the movement of the Moon in its orbit around the Earth. However, the final decision regarding the beginning of the Shawwal month is within the competence of the Crescent Investigation Committee at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs in the State of Qatar.

Engineer Faisal Al-Ansari, Executive Director of Sheikh Abdullah Al-Ansari Complex, provided further details regarding the crescent of the month of Shawwal for the year 1444 AH. He stated that the crescent will be born on Thursday, April 20, 2023 AD (the day of investigation), at 7:13am Doha local time (4:13am GMT). He added that the crescent will set after the sunset of the investigation day, April 20, 2023 AD, in the sky of the State of Qatar, with a period of 22 minutes, which will increase as we head west.

It is important to note that the beginnings and ends of the Hijri months are determined by the movement of the Moon in its orbit around the Earth. In contrast, the beginnings and ends of the Gregorian months depend on the movement of the Earth in its orbit around the sun. The determination of the start of the month of Shawwal and Eid Al-Fitr is significant for the Muslim world, as it marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan and a time for celebration and reflection. The announcement by the Qatar Calendar House provides clarity and guidance for Muslims around the world to prepare for this important event.
