Uyghurs Commemorate 33 Years Since National Uprising in East Turkistan

(MENAFN- M. Sliwa Public Relations) WASHINGTON - On Wednesday, April 5th, at 2 PM, activists will gather at the US Capitol Building to commemorate the 33rd anniversary of the East Turkistan National Uprising against China and its oppressive policies against the East Turkistani people – Uyghurs, Kazaks, Kyrgyz, Uzbeks, Tartars, Mongols, and others.

The protest seeks to raise awareness of China's ongoing genocide of the East Turkistani people and call for US recognition of East Turkistan as an occupied country.

The East Turkistan National Uprising, which occurred on April 5, 1990, was a pivotal moment in history that ignited a new wave of resistance against Chinese colonization and oppressive policies. Although Chinese occupation forces brutally suppressed the national uprising, it was instrumental in reawakening the East Turkistani people and proving that their desire for freedom had not been extinguished.

On April 5th, the East Turkistan Government in Exile and the East Turkistan National Movement will call on Congress to recognize East Turkistan as an occupied country and resolve the conflict between East Turkistan and China. The event will include speakers from human rights organizations, survivors of the genocide, and other representatives.
