Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg Threatened with Assassination in Letter Containing Powder
(MENAFN) Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg received a threatening letter containing powder on Friday, just hours after former President Donald Trump warned of "potential death & destruction" if he is indicted by a grand jury in a criminal case led by Bragg. The typewritten note in the letter threatened to kill Bragg, according to law enforcement sources.
The letter, postmarked from Orlando, Florida, was found in the DA's mail room in a lower Manhattan building on Friday, after being received at 11:40 AM ET. The white powder in the envelope was found to be non-hazardous, according to the New York Police Department.
Bragg's office immediately informed the NYPD, which dispatched its Emergency Service Unit and the NYC Department of Environmental Protection to investigate the letter. The FBI, which has an office nearby, is also involved in the investigation.
In a statement, a DA spokeswoman said that the letter containing the threat was contained immediately and that there was no dangerous substance. The investigation is ongoing.
The threat against Bragg comes amid heightened tensions in the wake of Trump's warning about potential violence if he is indicted. Bragg, who was sworn in as Manhattan DA on January 1, has pledged to hold powerful people accountable, including those in the Trump administration.
The threatening letter against Bragg is a reminder of the dangers faced by public officials who seek to uphold the rule of law and hold powerful figures accountable. It is important that law enforcement takes all threats seriously and that those responsible for such threats are held accountable for their actions.
