Adidas Launches "Running Needs Nothing But You" Global Campaign Featuring Regional Athletes
(MENAFN) Adidas has launched its new global campaign, "Running Needs Nothing But You," which features a short film starring three regional athletes. For the first time, Qatari hurdler Mariam Farid, Egyptian runner Khadija Hegazy, and Egyptian football star Mo Salah star in the campaign, which aims to show that anyone and everyone can run, regardless of ethnicity, age, gender, and disabilities.
The film's stars share their personal stories and how running has impacted their lives. Liverpool player Mo Salah, for instance, said that "Running is my personal story," as it reminded him of waking up at 5 a.m. to pray and run during his early mornings in Egypt when he was 13 years old. Running has always been a way for him to chase the impossible and strive towards the future he had imagined for himself.
The campaign's film also stars Khadija Hegazy and Mariam Farid, who are both hijabi athletes, marking an essential milestone for Arab women. Hegazy, who is an Egyptian triathlete and Adidas runners coach, initially played basketball until 2011. She started running to "be with herself" and improve her basketball skills. She told Arab News that she faced harassment and catcalling while running in the streets of Cairo, which made her pick her routes and run times wisely to avoid feeling afraid.
Despite these challenges, Hegazy started building a running community and finding running buddies so that they wouldn't have to feel scared or alone while running. This campaign aims to encourage everyone to start running, regardless of the obstacles they may face. The film's stars are a testament to the idea that running needs nothing but oneself, and it can help one achieve their goals and dreams.
