Iran, West African countries seek to strengthen economic ties at IRAN WAC meeting
(MENAFN) The Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy, Mehdi Safari, has emphasized the complementarity between the economies of Iran and the African continent, stating that significant achievements can be made by leveraging the abundant capacities of both sides. His remarks were made at the Scientific and Economic Cooperation Meeting Between Iran and West African Countries (IRAN WAC), which began on Monday and is set to conclude on Wednesday in Tehran.
Safari referred to the Iranian Leader's words regarding the expansion of economic cooperation with neighboring countries, particularly in Africa, and stated that the development of economic diplomacy with neighboring countries has been given priority in the 13th government. Follow-up efforts to increase trade with the African continent have also been put on the agenda.
The Head of Iran's Trade Promotion Organization, Peyman Pak, has also shared that Iran is taking necessary steps to increase annual trade exchanges with African countries to USD5 billion by the Iranian calendar year 1404, which begins in March 2025. He added that the trade with these countries is expected to reach USD2.5 billion by the end of the current Iranian calendar year, which ends on March 20.
Referring to the trade development roadmap prepared by the 13th administration at the beginning of their term, Pak highlighted that the priorities and targets for trade with different African countries have been determined, as well as the requirements for achieving these targets. This will enable Iran to leverage its strengths and effectively tap into the economic potential of the African continent.
The IRAN WAC meeting serves as an important platform for fostering scientific and economic cooperation between Iran and West African countries. It presents a significant opportunity for both sides to strengthen their economic ties and explore new avenues of collaboration in various sectors.
