(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Expanding joint investments in the energy field, enhancing cooperation in the defence sector and exempting Qatari citizens from entry visas among topics discussed
The government of Qatar and the government of Japan held Tuesday the second strategic dialogue session at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tokyo.
HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani and Japanese Minister of Foreign Affairs Hayashi Yoshimasa chaired their respective sides.
During the session, they discussed expanding joint investments in the energy field, enhancing cultural relations, cooperation, and exchanging experiences in cybersecurity, in addition to enhancing cooperation in the defence field, exchanging expertise in the technological field, promoting private investments, and exchanging businesspersons' visits.
Also, the two parties agreed to exchange notes on exempting Qatari citizens from entry visas by introducing the pre-registration system for Qatari travelers to Japan.
They expressed concern about the consequences of the recent Israeli violations in the Palestinian territories, their agreement to support the resolutions of international legitimacy on the Palestinian issue, the need to end the Russian-Ukrainian crisis through dialogue and diplomatic means, and the importance of continuing humanitarian support to Afghanistan.
During the session, HE Sheikh Mohamed expressed Qatar's thanks to Japan for its efforts in hosting the second strategic dialogue, stressing the importance of strategic dialogues and their effective role in strengthening relations between the two countries.
For his part, the Japanese foreign minister expressed his country's congratulations to Qatar for its success in hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar, thanking the popular and official welcome and the facilities provided to the Japanese fans.
Yoshimasa praised the distinguished relations between Qatar and Japan, expressing his country's aspiration to strengthen them, especially in the energy and trade fields. Also, he noted Qatar's reliability and importance as an energy source to Japan and global markets.
Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida met Tuesday with HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani on the sidelines of the second strategic dialogue between both countries in Tokyo.
Both sides discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations in all fields and the importance of continuing dialogue and coordination to foster joint interests.
HE Sheikh Mohamed hailed the solid relations between the two countries, expressing that Qatar is looking forward to the Japanese Prime Minister's visit to Doha.
He welcomed boosting the economic cooperation and encouraging mutual investments, most notably in the energy sector, as well as encouraging joint investment in the renewable energy field.
The Japanese prime minister expressed his country's appreciation for the Qatari efforts for mediation and dispute resolution in a way that contributes to solidifying international peace and security.
