(MENAFN- Hamad Bin Khalifa University) Doha, January 23, 2023 – Hamad Bin Khalifa University Press (HBKU Press) recently published a special issue on the Anbar 2nd International Medical Conference (AIMCO-2022). The conference, entitled “Updates in Medical and Health Sciences,” highlighted the up-to-date advancements in different medical aspects and was published in a special issue in the Journal of Emergency Medicine, Trauma and Acute Care (JEMTAC). The College of Medicine and College of Pharmacy at the University of Anbar organized the conference in collaboration with the Royal College of Pathologists (RCPath). The conference adopted a multidisciplinary approach to report on the updates in medical and health sciences. This event was held on a hybrid platform from November 12-13, 2022.
During AIMCO-2022, national and international professionals gathered on a communication platform to exchange and share their experiences and research results. The AIMCO-2022 scholarly publishing editorial team, comprised of both locally and internationally based members, accepted 14 articles in total after an extensive peer-review process. In addition, the 25 most significant accepted abstracts of scientific works were presented during the event. The accepted articles were published by HBKU Press in a special issue of JEMTAC, which is indexed in several recognized databases such as Scopus and WHO (qscience.com/content/journals/jemtac/2022/6). HBKU Press has now made all articles from the conference in JEMTAC live on QScience.com, an Open Access platform available to all for easy review.
Though the published scientific work covers findings from studies already concluded, the content is more importantly future-facing updates in the medical field. The publications in this special issue provide invaluable insight into a wide range of medical aspects including, but not limited to, diseases pathophysiology, laboratory, and interventional diagnostic procedures. The published articles also included variable therapeutic modalities, whether via drug therapy or surgical mode of treatment. In addition, the conference covered recent suggestions and recommendations for medical education.
In AIMCO-2022, more than 75 distinguished committee members, keynote speakers, and session chairs from esteemed international organizations and Iraqi institutes have contributed to the success of AIMCO-2022. The international contributors were from globally recognized institutions such as the Royal College of Physicians - London (RCP), Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh (RCPE), the Southern African HIV Clinicians Society (SAHCS), Hamad Medical Corporation, University of Stanford, and University of Victoria London (UOVL) as well as scientists from the UK, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and the United Arab Emirates. Dr. Abdulsalam Al-Ani, the editor of this special issue, commented, “HBKU Press’s publication of the conference proceedings is an invaluable opportunity to share the knowledge, ideas, and advancements already presented in this event which was motivated by the success of its previous version; the Anbar 1st International Medical Conference (AIMCO-2020) conducted on COVID-19 for general benefit.”
Of note, AIMCO-2020 (uoanbar.edu.iq/aimco) was entitled “COVID-19; Updates on Management and Outcome,” which was considered the first international medical event in Iraq to discuss up-to-date knowledge in all medical fields related to the disease.
