Morocco’S Port Traffic Down In 2022

São Paulo – Traffic in ports managed by Morocco's National Ports Agency (ANP) dropped 4.2% in 2022 compared to the previous year. In total, the ANP reported 87.2 million tonnes were handled. Data were released by the official news agency of the Arab country, Maghreb Arabe Press (map ), this Wednesday (18). Pictured above, the Port of Casablanca, by ANP.

Port traffic includes imports and exports of goods and cabotage. Imports totaled 56.17 million tonnes, representing a 2.4% increase compared to the previous period. Exports reached 26.98 tonnes, down 18.5% compared to 2021.

Import cabotage was 2.7 tonnes, up 27.2%, and export cabotage was 1.36 tonnes, with a 37.2% growth.

By port, the distribution showed the prominence of Jorf Lasfar and Casablanca, which respectively had 39% and 29.6% shares of the total traffic reported to the ANP. Following are Safi (10.3%), Agadir (7.5%), Mohammedia (6.3%), Nador (4.3%), and Laayoune (2.1%).

Concerning the packaging mode, the ANP indicated solid bulk represented 59.6% of total traffic in 2022, ahead of liquid bulk, with 21.5%; containers, with 13.9%; and Ro-Ro (roll on-roll off), with 1.2%.
