Brazilian judge orders former-minister of Bolsonaro to be detained after riot in Brasilia

(MENAFN) After fans of right-wing former President Jair Bolsonaro went on the rampage through government facilities on Tuesday, a judge on the Brazilian Supreme Court ordered the arrest of the city's public security head, a source informed Reuters.

Anderson Torres, who served as Bolsonaro's justice minister before taking over this month as the public security director for Brasilia, where tens of thousands of protesters vandalized the Supreme Court, Congress, and presidential offices on Sunday, was taken into custody by Justice Alexandre de Moraes. What was being charged was not immediately clear.

A request for comment from Reuters was not immediately answered by Torres. The Supreme Court ruled that it was unable to validate the arrest warrant.

After receiving criticism for the security forces' failure to halt the assault and looting of the important government facilities, Torres was dismissed from his position on Sunday. He had earlier informed regional media on Sunday that Bolsonaro was now vacationing in Orlando, Florida, in the United States with his family.
