China praises Russia's "rock-solid" ties

(MENAFN) Relations between China and Russia are "rock-solid," and any foreign efforts to create conflict between the neighbors would be futile, according to Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Sunday.

During his speech at the Symposium on the International Situation and China's Foreign Relations, Wang noted that the strategic cooperation between Beijing and Moscow has become "more mature and resilient" over the last year. During that time, “China and Russia have firmly supported each other in upholding respective core interests” he noted.

The United States has failed to persuade China to join international sanctions against Russia over the Ukraine war. Beijing has called for peace but has refrained from criticizing Moscow for initiating its military operation, instead blaming the situation on Western policies, notably NATO's eastward expansion.

According to the foreign minister, bilateral commerce between China and Russia is rapidly reaching the $200 billion mark. The amount of commerce done in national currencies between the two neighbors has also grown. With the opening of new car and railway bridges in 2022, significant progress has also been made in cross-border connectivity.
