Environmentalists raid cement mill in France

(MENAFN) A Lafarge cement mill in Bouc-Bel-Air, France, has allegedly sustained major damage when a group of environmental protestors wrecked the building, claiming air pollution concerns. Up to 200 individuals attacked the residence late Saturday, according to French news network BFM TV.

The attackers, known as the 'Action Lafarge' group, are said to have used a variety of methods to cause damage to the factory, including sabotaging incinerators, electrical systems and devices, cutting cables, spilling cement bags, damaging vehicles and construction equipment, breaking windows, and spraying graffiti.

“Here in Bouc-Bel-Air, the ovens that have been targeted, long fed by industrial waste and tires, are now a symbol of greenwashing. The air pollution is considerable and has been repeatedly denounced by all the press and local residents. However, the chimneys still spew their venom,” the group stated in a news release, naming Lafarge one of the largest “polluters and producers of CO2 in the country.” The group pledged to “continue to dismantle” Lafarge’s infrastructure in order to put an end to “colonial eco-capitalism.”
