Poland achieves victory against Saudi Arabia 2-0 in 2022 World Cup


(MENAFN) On Saturday, Poland defeated Saudi Arabia 2-0 to earn their first victory in a World Cup Group C game.

At Doha's Education City Stadium, Piotr Zielinski scored Poland's opening goal in the 39th minute with Robert Lewandowski's help.

Krystian Bielik fouled Saleh Alshehri in the penalty area, and Saudi Arabia was given a 45-minute penalty following a visual assistance referee (VAR) review.

Poland won the first half 1-0, but Salem Aldawsari's penalty shot was saved by goalie Wojciech Szczesny.

With a close-range kick in the 82nd minute, Polish sensation Lewandowski doubled the advantage for his country.

Poland increased their points total to four while Saudi Arabia scored three.

Previously in the day, Australia won over Tunisia 1-0 as the goal was scored from Mitchell Duke in the 23rd minute at Al Janoub stadium in a Group D game.

With this outcome, the Socceroos have collected three points whereas the Carthage Eagles amassed one point.
