Serbia receives 'contradictory' requests from EU

(MENAFN) According to Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic, the EU is imposing "contradictory" demands on Serbia in terms of values and principles. While Serbia is committed to entering the EU, it is impossible to reconcile Brussels' demand on Ukraine's territorial integrity while asking Serbia to violate its own.

Following her meeting with Emanuele Giaufret, the director of the EU mission in Serbia, Brnabic talked with media in Belgrade. She was asked to address the "recommendations" just approved by the European Parliament at one point.

“One recommendation says Serbia can become an EU member only if it agrees to sanction Russia, because Russia violated the territorial integrity of an internationally recognized state,” Brnabic stated. “But the other recommendation is that we can continue on our European path only after giving up our own territorial integrity,” that is, by acknowledging the independence Kosovo’s provisional government declared in 2008 (14 years ago).

If territorial integrity is unbreakable, why is Serbia being pushed to violate its own?
