South African Cyril Ramaphosa has denied any complicity in farm issue

(MENAFN) President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa has denied misconduct in evidence to a parliamentary panel investigating whether he should face impeachment over an alleged cover-up of a robbery at his farmhouse, according to his office.

In written responses provided to the independent panel on Sunday, Ramaphosa “categorically denies that he violated this oath in any way, and denies that he is guilty of any of the allegations made against him,” the presidency stated on Monday.

The issue exploded in June after South Africa's former national intelligence chief submitted a Police complaint stating that burglars went into the president's property in the country's northeast and took $4 million in cash secreted in furniture.

According to the lawsuit, Ramaphosa concealed the heist from police and instead arranged for the criminals to be abducted and paid into quiet.

The issue threatens Ramaphosa's campaign for a second term as president of the African National Congress (ANC), as the ruling party prepares for heated internal elections in December.
