Traffic Dept Releases Regulations For Delivery Motorbikes

The General Directorate of Traffic Monday released a set of regulations for delivery motorbikes in Qatar.
The press meet that announced the regulations was attended by Brigadier Nasser Dorman Al Mufqai, Assistant Director General of Traffic, Brigadier Muhammad Abdul Rahim Marafih and Director of the Traffic Safety Department. Representatives of
delivery companies are also attended the conference held at the Department Auditorium in Madina Khalifa.
Brigadier Dr Muhammad Radi Al-Hajri, Director of the Traffic Awareness Department, explained many new rules and conditions for the delivery bikes, which aim to set control measures for this category of road users.



Brig. Al-Hajiri presented the first clause of Article (85) of the Traffic Law No. 19/2007, which stipulates that the load must be placed on top of the vehicle, it should be organized, arranged and fixed or tied in a safe way so that it is not prone to moving or falling.
He also explained the Executive Regulations of the Traffic Law about the specifications of the box that states the delivery box shall be firmly fixed and equipped with suitable and sufficient vibration dampers and that its dimensions shall be within the following limits:

Rear or front box : its length should not exceed 120 cm, and its width is not more than 60 cm, the length of the box with the motorcycle is not more than three meters, and its height should not be more than 120 cm above the ground, provided that it does not block the driver's view.
Sidebox : Its length should not be more than the length of the bicycle, its width not be more than 60 cm, and its height above the ground should be at most 120 cm.



The Director of the Traffic Awareness Department added that these measures come within the framework of the General Traffic Director's keenness to achieve security and safety on the roads and reduce the number of deaths resulting from traffic accidents in light of the steady growth and the increasing demand for the delivery service.
Brigadier Al-Hajri indicated that these controls are based on the recommendations of a workshop organized by the Directorate with the relevant authorities. They include many requirements for the rider, motorcycle, and delivery box, which will be implemented as of November 15, 2022.
Al-Hajiri urged the owners of companies to abide by the new controls and requirements. He noted that failure to comply with these controls violates Clause 3, Article 85, of Traffic Law, and its amount is QAR 1500.
Lieutenant-Colonel Ali Jarallah Al-Baridi, Head of the Technical Inspection Department, explained some observations and violations related to motorcyclists, such as using the first row at intersections and signals and carrying goods in a bag on the riders' back, which causes imbalance. He also shed light on violations related to the conditions of the box, lights and helmet and adherence to the periodic inspection of the motorcycle.
