Sudan: Protestors invade a town in south leaving two officers injured

(MENAFN) Sudan’s military stated on Wednesday a rebel group that has rejected to ink a main peace agreement had bombarded a town in the southern state of West Kordofan, and left two officers injured.

The reported weaponry attacks in Lagawa, some 580 km southwest of the capital Khartoum, come when ethnic clashes last week in a land dispute close to the town killed many people.

“Forces belonging to the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North launched indiscriminate shellings,” as stated by the troops.

It declared the invasions, which happened on Tuesday, smashed into a market and two neighborhoods in Lagawa and injured two members of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces.

The army also noted rebel groups then started an attack, but militaries were able “to force them to withdraw.”

The SPLM-N protestors in the area, a group ran by Abdelaziz Al-Hilu located in the rugged Nuba Mountains, have not remarked on the documents.
