A 12-year-old child allegedly hanged himself to death in the Gurziwan district of the Faryab province in northern Afghanistan after his father severely reprimanded him, local sources reported.

According to local sources, the young boy committed suicide as a result of domestic violence on Tuesday, October 18, in the Sarchakan market region of the Gurziwan district of Faryab province.

The latest domestic violence victim, 12-year-old Noor Mohammad, according to the sources resorted to ending his life by hanging after his father punished him.

Three days ago, a young girl was killed by her family in the Dawlat Abad district of the Faryab province in another instance of domestic violence.

Several news reports of children killing themselves after receiving a reprimand from their parents are found not only in Afghanistan but also after a quick Google search for the news item.

With poverty and unemployment dominating and adversely affecting people's lives in Afghanistan, there has been a mystifying rise in the number of suicides in Afghanistan, especially in Faryab province.
