Iraq's Sadrist movement claims it would not join new administration

(MENAFN) Iraq's Sadrist movement has declared its rejection to join in the formation of a new administration led by Prime Minister-designate Mohammad Shia al-Sudani.

In a message released on Twitter, Mohammed Saleh al-Iraqi, a close associate of renowned Iraqi Shia cleric Muqtada al-Sadr, stated that he adamantly opposed the involvement of anybody linked with the Sadrist movement in the new administration.

“We stress our firm and clear refusal for any of our affiliates to participate... in this government formation,” Iraqi stated.

He went on to say that the Sadrist movement rejected to take part in any government managed by Sudani “or any other candidate from among the old faces or those affiliated with the corrupt.”

This happened two days after Iraqi parliament chose Abdul Latif Rashid as the Arab country's new president, who appointed Sudani as prime minister immediately, ending a months-long political gridlock and clearing the way for the creation of a new administration.
