With car ownership rising, congestion across the Srinagar City is likely to be worse than it was before. The skyrocketing traffic is not just maddening to drivers; it has made the city's streets deadlier for pedestrians and cyclists.

Traffic Jams in the city are not something new. We are used to traffic Jams now. The number of vehicles on the roads has increased manifold but the roads remain the same. So, the only alternative, I think, to regulate traffic is to widen the already existing roads.

People should travel more by public transport than private vehicles. This will lessen the number of vehicles on roads and help in reducing traffic jams. The administration can try an old even mechanism which helps in reducing traffic jams.

Traffic lights have been installed in the city long back but are dysfunctional. It is difficult to understand why it is taking too long for the authorities to make these traffic lights operational. It is sad that city dwellers have been left to fend for themselves.

Shadab Abbas, Businessman

There is a lack of traffic sense among many of us. There are so many people who drive without adhering to traffic rules and regulations, which not only hampers smooth flow of traffic but endangers people's lives. The issue of narrow roads adds to the problem.

Afreen Shabir, Student, KU

The traffic snarls in the city are due to a number of reasons. Many roads in the city, in and around the city centre have been dug up in the city for Smart City Projects which hampers smooth flow of traffic. Moreover, with days getting shorter, people go back to their homes earlier which results in more traffic snarls.

The ever increasing vehicles on the roads, lack of parking spaces and lack of traffic sense among some people are some other reasons for traffic jams in the city.

However, we are trying our level best to regulate the traffic.
