France said it is ready for "pretext" provided by Gazprom to turn off gas

(MENAFN) The energy minister in Paris claimed that Gazprom was using a flimsy pretext to stop supplying natural gas to its French contractor, but he added that France had foreseen the loss of supply.

“As we anticipated, Russia is using gas as a weapon of war and is using Engie’s way of applying the contracts as a pretext to further reduce French supplies,” Agnes Pannier-Runacher stated in an announcement.

The remarks come after Russia's Gazprom declared that beginning on Thursday, it would completely halt gas delivery to the French utility Engie due to a financial dispute. Concerns over Europe's winter energy supplies will grow as a result of the action.
