Endurmo's Dan Donati Talks About Restoring Floors To Save Costs

Floor restoration is often the best option to create a new appearance that lasts for commercial spaces

When it comes time to update the flooring in a commercial facility, business owners or facility managers have several tough decisions to make. They need to decide which type of flooring is best suited for the location, weigh the cost-benefit analysis, then schedule when to shut down the entire area for an extended period of time. Dan Donati of Endurmo has an alternate idea that can quickly answer all those questions. Restore your existing floors.

“I've been in commercial flooring for 20 years, and restoring an existing surface, when done the right way, not only saves you upfront but also in the long run. Restoring floors makes them look brand new and provides a protective barrier to make them more durable. The project cost can also be as much as x% less than installing a new floor, plus the whole job is done within days or after business hours if needed.”

Restoration is an option for many different types of flooring. There are products available to restore tile and grout, terrazzo, marble, and concrete. The products used and the processes followed differ for each type of flooring. Dan explains that his company has three options for tile and grout alone.

“Essentially, it breaks down into three levels. The first step is a deep cleaning that restores the appearance of the tile and grout. Step two is sealing the grout to lock in the clean look and add durability. In level three, which we call EndurmoShield, we add a glaze, in addition to the seal, that covers the tile and the grout to create a protective barrier that enhances the new look for the long haul.”

It's also possible to restore concrete. Warehouses, distribution centers, and manufacturing facilities often use concrete as their primary flooring. Restoring concrete with a proper process and certain premium sealers helps with the moisture issues, delamination, and color fading that come with lesser concrete applications.

When restoration isn't possible, Dan says to look into epoxy flooring. Epoxy flooring is slip and spill-resistant, easy to maintain, and can be applied right over the existing flooring. You can even use epoxy flooring to encapsulate asbestos. Certain epoxies are environmentally friendly, and the process is more sustainable because you aren't creating waste by disposing of the old floor. The protective shield is seamless and is available in many different colors.

Undertaking a flooring replacement process will cost you both time and money. However, it's good to know that other options exist. Next time you plan to do a flooring project, ask your contractor if restoring and protecting your existing floors is an option.
