EU’s chief diplomat: Iran reacted reasonably to suggestion to revive nuclear pact

(MENAFN) The European Union's foreign policy head announced on Monday that he wished the United States would react in a positive way as early as this week to an EU suggestion that wishes to save a 2015 nuclear agreement with Iran, according to US News.

Josep Borrell also declared that Iran had given a "reasonable" reaction to the suggestion, which follows 16 months of disturbed, indirect U.S.-Iranian discussions with the EU shuttling between the groups. The contents of the suggestion are not announced yet.

"There was a proposal from me as coordinator of the negotiations saying 'this is the equilibrium we reached, I don't think we can improve it on one side or the other'... and there was a response from Iran that I considered reasonable," Borrell announced in a university event in the Spanish city of Santander.

"It was transmitted to the United States which has not yet responded formally... I hope the response will put an end to the negotiations," he as well said.

An EU official has previously declared the suggestion is the alliance's "final offer" to resume a deal stopped in 2018 by the government of then-U.S. Leader Donald Trump.

"The world would be a much safer place if we can make this agreement work," Borrell continued.
