OTTAWA, Canada – Mary Ng, minister of international trade, export promotion, small business and economic development, issued the following statement regarding passage of the US Inflation Reduction Act:
“[Today], the Inflation Reduction Act passed in the US House of Representatives. This legislation recognizes the Canada-United States integrated supply chain, by giving tax incentives for the purchase of electric vehicles made in North America.”
“Canada and the United States will continue to fight climate change together, create jobs together, and make automobiles together as we have for the last 100 years.”
“Our government has always stood up for our workers and industry, and today is no different. It took Team Canada advocacy by all working together for us to get here from the prime minister and cabinet colleagues, to labour and industry leaders.”
“North America led the auto industry in the 20th century, and it will lead the transition to electric vehicles in the 21st century. As our workers build electric vehicles and batteries right here in Canada, we will create more good, stable jobs and help make life more affordable.”
