Somalia backs China amid high strains on Taiwan

(MENAFN) Somalia on Saturday supported China on Beijing's high strains with Washington following a recent trip to Taiwan by US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

In a Foreign Ministry declaration, Somalia uttered support for China's dominion, political independence, regional integrity and national unity, and loyalty to UN and African Union resolutions.

"The government of Somalia declares its full solidarity with the People's Republic of China in defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity while affirming its firm position to respect the one-China policy, considering Taiwan an inalienable part of China's territory," in agreement with the declaration.

Somalia announced it has old ties with China, with collaboration between both "friendly countries" in the political, financial, and development sectors.

The declaration came hours following the Chinese Ambassador to Somalia Fei Shengchao accepted the employment of the new ministers by Premier Hamza Abdi Barre.
