Dhaka: Kolkata Airport Authorities are to blame for the recent suffering of passengers on Biman Bangladesh Airlines' Dhaka-bound flight, said country's national flag carrier.

On July 18, about 150 passengers of Biman's flight BG396 remained stranded inside the Boeing 737 aircraft for over four hours without air conditioning and food owing to a technical glitch of the aircraft, said the newly appointed Biman Managing Director and CEO Zahid Hossain.

The authorities of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata did not allow the passengers to de-board the plane for four hours while it was being repaired, he further said.

One the glitch was fixed, the flight landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 1:42 am on July 19, he mentioned.

According to reports, passengers said they were kept inside the aircraft without air conditioning or food in miserable conditions. Even those who went to India on medical visas for treatment purposes fell sick inside the aircraft.

Biman MD and CEO shared that the pilot of the aircraft had to abort a take-off because of a faulty sensor on the plane.

'They [Kolkata airport authorities] didn't give necessary permission to bring the passengers inside the terminal from the aircraft,' he sighed.

Biman Chief further mentioned that food could not be served as the plane was undergoing repairs while the air conditioning system failed due to an issue with the wiring system making the situation even worse for the passengers. It was fixed later,

Reports claimed that the flight was supposed to depart from Kolkata for Dhaka at 8:35 pm local time. However, just before the departure, the flight cancelled its take-off.

After around an hour, the flight again prepared for departure. Yet again, the take-off was aborted after reaching the runway. Then the Boeing 737 was taken to the apron.
